Beastars
Beastars Manga – Story and Publication
Beastars is a Japanese manga series written and illustrated by Paru Itagaki. The series was serialized in Weekly Shōnen Champion starting in 2016 and quickly gained international recognition for its unique storytelling and complex characters.
The story takes place in a world where anthropomorphic animals live together in a society divided between carnivores and herbivores. At Cherryton Academy, tensions rise after the mysterious death of a student, increasing distrust between different species.
The main character, Legoshi, is a quiet and thoughtful gray wolf who struggles with his natural instincts as a carnivore while trying to live peacefully among herbivores. His life becomes more complicated when he develops feelings for Haru, a small dwarf rabbit who is often misunderstood by others.
Throughout the series, Beastars explores themes such as identity, prejudice, friendship, and the challenges of controlling one's instincts. With its emotional storytelling and distinctive art style, the manga has become highly popular and later received an anime adaptation produced by Netflix.
